Sevilla are continuing their efforts to get defender Juanlu Sánchez signed to a new deal to try and ward off Everton.
That’s according to Orgullo Biri, who report that Everton are continuing to show an interest in the full-back ahead of the summer.
The Toffees were linked with a move for him late in the January transfer window, with the right-back spot having been a problem area for them.
The need has been lessened by David Moyes inserting Jake O’Brien into the position but reports in Spain this week have insisted that they intend to make a significant offer for Juanlu anyway.
Sevilla are aware of this interest and faced with the ‘increasing pressure’ from Everton and other European clubs and have taken a step forward to try and get the player signed to a new deal.
His current contract expires in 2026, and they’ve already put an offer on the table to extend that until 2029. They also want to increase his release clause to €20m to force the likes of Everton to pay that fee for him if they want him.
Juanlu, for his part, has expressed his desire to continue at Nervión and has left negotiations in the hands of his representatives.
There is confidence that it will be done, and Sevilla will get their way, but Everton’s efforts are hastening their efforts to sort out a new deal.
