A few months ago, before Gerard Deulofeu’s loan from Everton to AC Milan, it was hard to predict how eventful his situation would be.

The player has been impressive in Italy, which has generated rumours regarding a permanent stay at Milan. But what makes this deal a bit complex is that when selling the player to Everton in 2015, Barcelona included a buy-back clause of around €12m.

And as recently revealed by the Catalan club director Robert Fernandez, Deulofeu’s recent form is making them think of using the option.

CapturarNow as reported by Tuttosport today, Milan are not only thinking of finding a deal with Everton, but with Barça as well. That’s why the club director Adriano Galliani has spoken to the Italian Barcelona official Ariedo Brada to become aware of their intentions.

The idea would be that if Barcelona take him through the buyback clause, the Italian side would be planning to make them a bigger offer and sign the player.

However, that’s impossible. Shortly after Everton signed Deulofeu from Barcelona, Roberto Martinez explained: “There are certain things in the deal. They can’t take him back in the winter so they can’t take him back in January. It can only be at the end of the season. It is €9m for the first year and €12m in the second year.

“If they take him back they can’t sell him for a season, so he has to stay in the first-team squad for a season. At the end of that if they decide to sell him we have got first rights of getting him back or we have got a big percentage of that deal.”

AC Milan can make all the plans they want, Everton have got this covered.
