FC Porto are pushing to sign Yaser Asprilla from Watford after a proposed move to Stade Rennais did not come to fruition.
That’s according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who reports that the Portuguese side want to ‘bypass’ Rennes and get the Watford man.
Asprilla had appeared close to joining the French side and had even travelled with his agent to visit the club’s facilities ahead of the proposed move.
They are continuing to push to try to find a total agreement with the Watford midfielder but in the meantime, Porto have made their move and tried to bypass their transfer rivals.
The nature of their bid or their efforts isn’t made clear at this point, just that they’ve made a move, presumably by contacting the midfielder’s agent.
Whether they can now convince the Watford man to abandon the plan with Stade Rennais and make Porto his preferred destination remains to be seen.
The Portuguese side are unlikely to be any more willing to match his demands than Rennes are at this point, with that likely what is holding matters up given Asprilla has seemingly been given permission to travel around and speak to clubs.
Either way they’ve now made their move and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops from here on out.
