Manchester City paid sent Danilo and money to Juventus for João Cancelo in a deal reportedly worth £60m in the summer of 2019.
The 26-year-old failed at times to convince Pep Guardiola in his debut season at the Etihad and that led to reports linking the right-back with a move to Barcelona in the summer.
City reportedly showed interest in Nélson Semedo/Sergi Roberto, and it was said they were ready to offer Cancelo to the Catalan club as part of a deal to sign one of the two players.
However, they failed to sign either of them and Semedo ended up joining Wolverhampton Wanderers as his compatriot continued with the Citizens.
It’s not clear if there were any reports about the Serie A side showing interest in Cancelo in the last window, but Calciomercato have decided to provide an update on this.
The website makes it clear the Portugal international was ‘never really close’ to returning to the Turin club because the Old Lady ‘didn’t want him back’ in the summer.
Cancelo has been used on either side of City’s defence this season and has a goal and assist from six appearances in all competitions.
