After retaining an interest in Matteo Guendouzi for ‘many weeks’, Marseille had made ‘great progress’ in their efforts to sign Arsenal player.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Hertha Berlin and he’s now been approached by several European clubs.

According to Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old’s future could be in France, and ‘more precisely’ at Marseille.

Guendouzi spent the 2020/21 season on loan with the Bundesliga side after failing out with Mikel Arteta in June 2020. Since then, ‘something has broken’ between the Gunners and the Frenchman.

Marseille have now shown interest in the former Lorient man, who will be out of action for the next three months after suffering an injury earlier this month. That, however, has not stopped Jorge Sampaoli’s side from appreciating him, something they also did last summer.

Guendouzi has already held talks with Pablo Longoria and the Marseille manager, from which he has found out that he will be the centre of their project. He’s ‘excited’ about the possibility of joining Marseille.

For ‘several days’, discussions with different parties have accelerated after the French club made contact with Guendouzi’s camp and Arsenal.
