With Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo being linked to a move to Napoli back in the summer window, we now see the Italian media coming up to say the possibility existed.
Sky Sport (via Area Napoli) now reports that there was a ‘desperate plan’ handled by agent Jorge Mendes, as he wanted to move the player to a Champions League club ‘at any cost’.
It’s said the agent first spoke to AC Milan, as he’d move a few other pieces and get Ronaldo to the Rossoneri.
However, with the San Siro side looking for younger players, they did not get interested in the Manchester United forward.
Then it was time to speak to Napoli, and according to Sky Sport, the talks with president Aurelio De Laurentiis went on for ‘several days’.
It’s said Mendes’ offer was for Victor Osimhem to move to Manchester United for €100m and Cristiano Ronaldo would join the Serie A side on a loan deal.
That’s when Napoli reportedly then made a ‘counter-proposal’ to the agent, which sounds quite ridiculous, as they wanted the Red Devils to pay €120m for the Nigeria international as well as make sure that Ronaldo’s salary would be fully paid by Manchester United during his spell in Italy.
Such an offer was quite clearly never made by the Red Devils, as the Portuguese remains at Old Trafford to this day.
