Returning to Arsenal from his loan spell from Fiorentina without the permanent transfer he was hoping for, Lucas Torreira has had to do a fair bit of waiting this summer.
With still some time left in the transfer window, the Uruguayan knows he doesn’t have a future with the Gunners under Mikel Arteta, so he’s looking for something else.
A move to Italy appears high on the Arsenal midfielder’s list of wishes, having excelled there in the past with Sampdoria and most recently Fiorentina, which is where AS Roma come in.
There had been talk of him going to Valencia, but stories about a desire to work with José Mourinho also surfaced, with those taking prominence on Friday.
This comes courtesy of Calciomercato.it, who report that there were ‘new contacts yesterday’ so that the Serie A side could ‘understand the feasibility of this operation’, knowing full well they would have to get rid of one of their current players first to make it happen.
The belief is that, with just one year left on his Arsenal contract, Torreira ‘could leave the Gunners for an offer close to €10m’.
Recently stating he would be ‘thrilled’ at the idea of working with Mourinho, this is certainly a potential deal that interests the player, and should it present itself, there would be little need to convince him.
