AS Roma opened contact with Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and his agent ‘in recent days’ as they look to strengthen their forward line this summer.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who say the Palace forward is the alternative to Paulo Dybala, who remains the first choice for Jose Mourinho and co.
The newspaper explains that Roma have ‘made a move’ for the Ivorian and held contacts with his entourage about a possible move.
They insist there is ‘nothing concrete’ as of yet, but Zaha’s contract expiring in 2023 has opened up the possibility of a deal.
The possibility of a transfer happening depends on the ‘demands’ of Crystal Palace, who value Zaha at at least €20m. Roma will also be dependent on getting players out of the current squad.
At this moment in time, it seems Roma have just shown an interest and nothing more, and sales are very much the order of the day.
That is something club chief Tiago Pinto is working on, and he has instructed several agents to find offers for those Mourinho would be happy to move on.
Should Zaha arrive, he would be the fourth player to be imported from the Premier League after deals for Tammy Abraham, Rui Patricio and Nemanja Matic.
Mourinho is very much in favour of signing players he knows, and Zaha, a player he came up against on more than one occasion, would fit the bill.
