Schalke ‘would love’ to keep Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac this summer, but a deal is ‘questionable’ for several reasons.
That’s according to Halterner Zeitung, who cover the future at Schalke today should they be relegated as expected this season.
Schalke currently sit bottom of the table and 13 points behind Arminia Bielefeld and Hertha Berlin in 16th and 15th, respectively.
Relegation is almost a certainty this season, and that will mean an overhaul of sorts at the club and deciding on the future of several loan players will be a part of that.
Kolasinac is one such player, having joined his former club from Arsenal in the January transfer window in an attempt to get them out of trouble.
Schalke would like to keep him permanently, but at this moment in time, ‘the signs point to departure’.
They believe Kolasinac can be a ‘leading figure’ at the club but whether the Bosnian would agree to play in the second division seems ‘more than questionable’.
The biggest obstacle to any deal is the finances, though. Kolasinac already accepted ‘major financial losses’ to make the move from Arsenal in January, and he will ‘hardly do that’ a second time around.
Thus, a return to the Emirates looks extremely likely this summer unless all three parties can find some sort of agreement and Kolasinac is willing to make more sacrifices for his old club.
