Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham Hotspur last November and had an instant impact at the north London club.
However, the situation has drastically changed in recent weeks as Spurs picked up only six points from the last six league matches and were eliminated by Middlesbrough from the FA Cup.
Last month, reports coming out of Italy stated the former Chelsea manager wants ‘ready to win’ players and has identified Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij as one of the targets.
The centre-back played under Conte at for two years and was one of the key figures in their tile winning campaign last term. The 30-year-old’s current deal expires in 2023 and has not signed an extension at the San Siro so far.
When discussing De Virj’s future, InterLive.it state the Serie A winners ‘could lose one of the pillars of recent years’ in the summer. The defender is one of the ‘most expendable’ players for Inter, mainly because of his age, performances and the contract situation.
If the Netherlands international were to leave Inter, then there would be Tottenham as his signing is the ‘request from Conte’. Spurs would offer De Vrij a four-year deal worth €6.5m per season.
According to the report, the Nerazzurri will ‘close the deal’ for the Dutchman’s sale, should they receive an offer of around €25-30m. In that case, they will cash in from De Vrij’s exit and use the funds to buy a new centre-back.
