AS Roma spent much of the summer window trying to sell Amadou Diawara, with the midfielder offered to multiple clubs.

It was even claimed that he was offered to Wolves during the negotiations for Rui Patricio’s move to Serie A, but there didn’t seem to be a great deal of interest.

After most transfer windows closed, Roma turned their attention to Turkey, and it was thought Diawara was close to signing for Galatasaray. That deal collapsed and there’s little hope it can be saved before the Turkish window closes.

Calciomercato report Diawara’s name will continue to be on the market come the January window, because Roma want to fund a move for either Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz or Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Luiz was repeatedly linked with Roma over the summer, and there are already multiple Italian claims of the club returning for the Aston Villa player when the next market opens.

However, it’s worth noting that any time articles have discussed a potential price for the Brazilian, it’s always seemed woefully unrealistic and below a level Aston Villa would find acceptable.
