Douglas Luiz has repeatedly been linked with an exit from Aston Villa, with Serie A clubs specifically having interest at various times.

The rumour usually starts with an Italian side, often AS Roma, feeling they could sign the midfielder for far less than what Villa would want, and then the whole thing falls to pieces when the cost of the transfer is finally realised.

Things are a little different this summer, with the 24-year-old now having less than a year left on his contract. That should make him cheaper in the market, although there doesn’t appear to be an awful lot happening.

Calciomercato address recent claims about a potential move to AC Milan, and they then dismiss the idea of the Serie A champions being seriously keen. It’s said ‘the truth’ of the matter is that the Rossoneri like the player but he’s not currently considered a priority.

Instead, the club would be looking for a midfielder ‘with more quality and ability to transform the action from defensive into offensive’.

AS Roma continue to be linked with the Brazilian, but, again, it doesn’t seem there’s anything imminent on that transfer track either.
