According to a claim in the Turkish media, Trabzonspor are targeting Middlesbrough’s Dan Barlaser so that they can increase the number of domestic players in their squad.

Yesterday there were claims the Super Lig side are interested in the Middlesbrough player ahead of next month’s transfer window.

Sabah today report, Trabzonspor have offered Barlaser the chance to sign for them this summer. With the Turkish side targeting the likes of Leicester City’s Wilfried Ndidi and Norwich City’s Marcelino Nunez they want to get the balance right by also signing domestic players.

Despite being born in England, Barlaser has Turkish roots through his father and subsequently this is something which appeals to Trabzonspor. The Middlesbrough midfielder also represented Turkey at youth level before switching alliances to England.

Yesterday we covered reports that Trabzonspor were making efforts to bring in players this summer and that an offer has been made for Barlaser. The Super Lig’s scouting team have reportedly done a lowdown on the 27-year-old and have approved the signing.

Barlaser made 40 appearances for Boro last season, scoring 2 goals. He’s contracted to the club until June 2026.
