Serge Aurier had a disappointing Saturday.
After celebrating what he thought was a goal for Tottenham, the defender than had the displeasure of VAR ruling it out for an offside so marginal nobody would have complained had it gone the other way.
That goal could have been some kind of redemption, showing he’s an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and working his way into the heart of a Spurs fanbase who are anything but convinced with the defender.
It wasn’t to be, and Leicester City went on to win the match, leaving Tottenham in 8th place with eight points from their first six Premier League games.
Earlier this month, Aurier caused a little controversy when he was questioned whether he was worried about the competition at his club and being stuck on the bench for the season: “What competition? There isn’t any. I’d simply decided to leave [this summer], which was normal for me. Many things were taken into consideration. In the end, I wasn’t able to leave. It proves the club trust me on a lot of points, and we’ll see.
“We’ll see how the season pans out, but for now, I’m here, the transfer window is shut and we need to concentrate on the campaign ahead.”
The transfer window reopens in January and it would be no surprise if the player continues to look towards the exit door.
Over in Italy, it’s thought there may be an opening at AC Milan.
SportMediaset report the club’s leadership ‘very much’ like the Tottenham fullback and feel they need to strengthen in the right-back position.
That’s all it is for now, yet there’s plenty of time for things to grow ahead of the winter market.
