By this point, we’re sure you’re aware that Chelsea blocked a deadline day move to Borussia Dortmund for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Despite having an attacking arsenal greater than most nations, the Blues elected to keep hold of the forward this summer rather than letting him go be a regular in Germany.
The logic behind that is a little confusing for most of us, who simply can’t see the logic in keeping a player who is unlikely to see many minutes given the players he’d have to supplant to do so.
It would have been interesting to see what Hudson-Odoi could do in Germany, and it seems they’re very disappointed not to have him.
Sky Sport Germany cover the situation today and how Chelsea ‘put a stop’ to a possible deal, meaning deadline day did not go ‘ideally’ for their Bundesliga counterparts.
They say the signs were ‘so positive’, but the Blues refused to ‘play along’ as they did not have a direct replacement for him. It’s also stated too that Thomas Tuchel was ‘against a departure’.
That left Dortmund coming away ‘empty-handed’, and that’s unlikely to go down well as Hudson-Odoi would have done well for them.
Sky explain that with Jadon Sancho gone, Dortmund are not ‘ideally positioned’ on the flanks, and there is a particular ‘Achilles heel‘ on the right wing.
There’s no Plan B at the club for Marco Rose when things don’t go well, which is an issue that ‘could fall on BVB’s feet’.
Hudson-Odoi could have filled the gap perfectly, but that won’t be happening, a problem Dortmund will have to try and workaround.
Hudson-Odoi, meanwhile, will stay at Chelsea and fight for his place, but like Dortmund will know, things could have probably been far better.
