As things stand, Southampton have a very good chance of finding themselves in the Championship next season.
Eighteenth in the Premier League and four points behind 17th placed Swansea, Mark Hughes’ men will need a lot to go their way if they are to pull off a miraculous escape with just four games left to go.
Should they get relegated, Saints will undoubtedly see a lot of their key players leave for greener pastures, one of which will most likely be Manolo Gabbiadini.
Despite a thunderous start to his career at St Mary’s, the Italian striker has failed to make the impact so many wished him to have, as the 26-year-old has scored just four goals in 27 league appearances this season.
With all this in mind, talk of a return to Italy has been ongoing for some time, and Corriere Fiorentino on Monday explain that Fiorentina could be the ideal landing spot for Gabbiadini.
They state ‘the idea of a return to Italy, in a team like La Viola and a manager like [Stefano] Pioli could represent the key to convince him of a return to Serie A to start things up again’.
It’s just an idea for now, but it’s one we’ll be keeping an eye over the coming months.
