When Cedric Soares moved to Inter Milan in the January window, he was bursting with joy over the transfer.
Coming out of his medical, the Southampton owned player couldn’t have looked any happier after completing his loan move. The fullback had the plan to impress for the Serie A club and then see them make the deal permanent in the summer.
It was hard to watch, because even when he was all smiles the Italian media were reporting that Inter had no intention of keeping him beyond the loan period, and had only signed him as a cheap option to see them through until the season ended.
He only got 259 minutes in Serie A, and only completed two matches, against Chievo Verona and SPAL, it wasn’t what he will have expected.
Now he’s back at Southampton with an uncertain future.
Luckily, France’s FootMercato report that AS Monaco ‘keep an eye’ on the player and are therefore interested in a potential deal.
There’s a good chance it’s something Soares would be thrilled with. Monaco had a very poor season but are a well established club on the European level.
