Lucas Torreira’s time with Arsenal certainly wasn’t a disaster, but it quickly became clear that he wasn’t entirely comfortable with life after moving from Sampdoria in 2018.

The midfielder spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid, and had wanted to leave the Spanish club in the January window of this year, with endless reports about a desire to return to South America for personal reasons.

That move couldn’t happen, and the summer again saw a loan move arranged, with Arsenal agreeing to send their player to Fiorentina for the current season.

Fiorentina.it report the player is proving to be hugely important for La Viola, covering endless blades of grass on the pitch. He’s crucial for the Tuscany club and their way of playing and they want to make sure he stays around for longer than the loan.

With a €15m buying option, the club has a way to do that. The report states both the player, who is comfortable back in Italy, and Fiorentina want to continue together, and ‘securing’ his signing is one of the ‘priorities’ for coming months.

There’s no indication of whether Fiorentina will simply match the €15m, or try to negotiate the figure down.
