According to a claim in the French media, Dijon are hoping to complete the signing of Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji before the deadline. The player arrived from Chelsea in 2016, but hasn’t been able to make himself useful enough.
L’Equipe report this morning Dijon are closing in on the Sunderland player, as the French club look to bolster their defensive options. There are no reports if Djilobodji will be loaned to Dijon, or whether his move would be permanent.
The 28 year old looks surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light, and may have to find a new club before the window closes. Yet to play for Sunderland in the league this season, it seems he isn’t in the plans of Simon Grayson.
The Senegalese defender’s only senior appearance in this campaign has come in the EFL Cup, and he’s also played for Sunderland’s U23 side.
Djilobodji is contracted to the Championship side until June 2020.
