Sporting are keen on letting Tottenham retain half of Marcus Edward’s rights should they sign the player this summer.
That’s according to A Bola, who say the Portuguese club ‘believe in the continuity’ of the partnership should they sign the Englishman.
Edwards currently plays for Vitória Guimarães after joining them from Tottenham’s under 23 side in September 2019.
He’s established himself as a key player at the club and several bigger sides in Portugal, including Sporting, are all interested in his signature.
A Bola cover that and say they are ‘still interested’ in signing the 22-year-old, although they are facing competition from Olympiakos for his signature.
That doesn’t change Sporting’s plans as they believe Edwards can offer a lot to Rúben Amorim, and he is perfectly suited to Portuguese football at this point.
They need to work out a deal to convince Guimarães to sell their half of the player’s rights but are not interested in those held by Tottenham.
Spurs still have 50% of the player’s rights, but Sporting ‘believe in the continuity’ of that arrangement and so are only interested in negotiating for Guimarães’ 50%.
Why that is the case isn’t made clear, but it’s likely to do with a lack of funds, given Sporting already need to include players as part of the deal to try and convince Guimarães’ to sell.
