Last summer, Leicester City allowed Dennis Praet join Torino on a season-long loan deal, with the Italian club having an option to make his stay permanent.
The midfielder’s agent admitted in October 2021 the former Sampdoria man returned to Serie A side to rebuild his career.
His start to the campaign was hindered by an injury and since regaining full fitness, the Foxes owned player has gone on to make 17 league appearances. Earlier this month, the 27-year-old suffered another setback when he fractured the ‘fifth metatarsal of the right foot’.
The latest injury blow in fact could help the Turin club retain the Belgium international beyond this season, according to Calciomercato.
As a part of the agreement between the Serie A side and Leicester, the former can buy Praet for €15m in the summer.
The website mentions Torino chairman Urbano Cairo ‘is willing to pay this figure’, but we are of the belief they meant to state Cairo is not willing to pay €15m for the ex-Anderlecht man, mostly because of what they say in the next paragraph.
This is because Calciomercato write that Torino ‘will in fact ask’ Brendan Rodgers’ side to ‘renew’ Praet’s loan deal since they are keen on retaining him (therefore keeping him without spending €15m).
It now remains to be seen whether or not Leicester will accept to extend the Belgian’s loan stay in Italy, meaning the ball is in the Foxes’ court.
