On Tuesday, the Italian media thought it would be a good idea to link Newcastle United to a couple of strikers in Serie A.
Ciro Immobile was one of them, although it seemed very unlikely, while the other ended up being Patrik Schick, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from AS Roma.
Gazzetta dello Sport claimed the Magpies had ‘asked for information in recent hours’ for the Czech Republic international, and reported the Italians wanted €26m from the player’s sale this summer.
Leipzig have the option to sign Schick permanently for €28m, but Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday explain they have so far only offered €20m.
That’s not enough to get a deal over the line, regardless of the fact the forward ‘wants to stay in Germany’.
This is when Corriere also decide to break the news that AS Roma have ‘an interesting offer’ from Newcastle for Schick.
No details are given, but if it’s described as interesting, it would suggest it’s relatively close to the valuation the Serie A side have set for their player.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this.
