Bayer Leverkusen want to sign West Ham United’s Vladimír Coufal in the January transfer window, according to Sky Deutschland.
Jeremie Frimpong and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are currently the two right-backs available at the Bundesliga side. The Dutchman has been restricted to just over 100 minutes of action from eight matches in all competitions.
Xabi Alonso isn’t convinced with Fosu-Mensah, which is why his side are ‘interested in signing’ the West Ham player in the winter market.
It’s explained that a delegation from the German club will travel to London at the end of this week to ‘conduct initial negotiations’ with the Hammers about a possible deal for the fullback.
The Czech Republic international’s deal runs until the end of this season and David Moyes’ side retain an option to extend it by two more years. This is the ‘big hurdle’ for Leverkusen to take the 30-year-old away from the London club.
Sky explain Alonso’s side assume that West Ham could demand a ‘lavish fee’ to part ways with the defender in the next window.
Coufal has made 16 appearances in all competitions this term for the English club, which includes 14 starts.
