Manchester City finished the 2021/22 season by winning the Premier League with Gabriel Jesus as the only recognised striker in the squad.
This will not be repeated next term as the Citizens have already lined up deals for Julián Álvarez and Erling Haaland.
The Norway international will be the first choice No.9 at Manchester City, while it still needs to be seen whether the Argentine will be included in Pep Guaridola’s plans or be allowed to go out on loan to a European club.
Ferran Soriano, the English club’s chief, has already confirmed they have received a lot of interest for Álvarez. However, he stressed the 22-year-old will complete preseason with the club.
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille are ‘interested’ in taking the former River Plate star on a season-long loan deal this summer.
It’s claimed the Ligue 1 side’s president, Pablo Longoria, ‘would like to offer’ Álvarez to his manager, Jorge Sampaoli. The report makes it clear it is ‘just an interest’ from Marseille and they have not made an offer for him so far.
A season-long loan at Marseille, with regular playing time and the opportunity to play in the Champions League, may please all parties.
