If you’ve been following the European transfer news over the past couple of months, you’ll be aware that Paris Saint-Germain’s main priority in January is to find a defensive midfielder.
Thomas Tuchel, the Ligue 1 side’s manager, highlighted the need as soon as he arrived, but summer failures in that department have left him needing to make do until at least January to get his man.
As well as Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucouré, one of the recent recurring names has been Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, a story thrust in the spotlight by Sky Sports News five or so days ago.
Since then, mentions here and there have appeared, but nothing too concrete.
That is until Le10 Sport came along on Thursday afternoon with what they claim is to be their own information.
The French website believe first contacts have taken place between Everton and Paris Saint-Germain regarding a January transfer, although the news the Ligue 1 side received won’t be ideal.
Ever since the Champions League side started their search, their budget has been reported as €25m or so, which certainly won’t be enough for the Toffees, as Le10 claim Marco Silva and co. have asked for €40m for Gueye.
An ‘official offer’ is said to be on its way in the coming days, but all the information above suggests it won’t be accepted.
It all depends how the bid is spread out, but our guess is Everton won’t want to see one of their key midfielders leave midway through the season unless it’s all up front.
