Even though some recent stories have been saying that Welington has a deal to join Southampton, it now seems that transfer isn’t all done yet.

Earlier on Monday, we even covered a report from Italy which said Torino are likely to miss out on the signing, as the São Paulo fullback is heading towards St. Mary’s.

However, as journalist Gianluca Di Marzio now shares an update on the situation, he claims Southampton may stil lose that race.

On Twitter, the journalist writes that Torino are ‘increasingly confident’ that they can beat the Saints’ competition.

Welington’s contract with São Paulo expires at the end of the year, so he can either sign a pre-contract to join in January or clubs can pay a small fee to speed up the arrival.

Di Marzio claims that while Southampton have an agreement with the player to get him for free, Torino’s idea is to find a deal with the Brazilian club and get him first.

That’s why the Serie A would still have a chance.

Still, we must point out that reports from Brazil at the weekend claimed that Southampton will try to reach a deal with São Paulo too. So we must wait and see how Torino will manage to fight them.
