Valencia ‘continue to work’ on closing a deal for Brentford forward Sergi Canós but are facing stern competition from Olympiakos.

That’s according to Onda Cero, who say the Greek side are currently bettering Valencia in terms of a transfer fee and the package on offer to the player.

Reports last night indicated that Valencia were close to securing a deal for Canós, who has returned to Brentford following a loan spell in Greece in the second half of this season.

Onda Cero pick up on that and explain that while Valencia are working to close the deal, there is stern competition from Olympiakos, who are keen to keep Canós after his loan spell.

They explain that while it is Canós’s dream to play for Valencia, something he has spoken about publicly in the past, making a deal happen is not as easy as they might wish it to be.

Valencia have an agreement in place with the player, but Olympiakos have ‘increased their financial offer’ to Canós and, more importantly, they are ‘paying more’ to Brentford than what those in charge at the Mestalla have offered.

Olympiakos, then, are leading the race for his signature but Valencia remain in the fight and are trying to convince Brentford to give in to the player’s wishes and sanction a move to them instead.

The Spanish side are ‘optimistic’ they can succeed on that front, and they will soon be able to make Canós’ move official, but work is needed with the Bees first.
