Donny van de Beek has struggled to start games for Manchester United ever since he left Ajax and made a switch to Old Trafford in 2020.

Everton came forward to take the midfielder in the summer, but the Red Devils were not willing to let him leave on the basis that was offered.

Just after September’s international break, his agent said he’d had good conversations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his client’s situation at the club.

The Dutchman has featured only twice since then and a lack of opportunities in Manchester is drawing attention from elsewhere, with Barcelona interest now floated in Catalonia.

According to Sport, the La Liga side have the Netherlands international as one of four ‘candidates’ for the winter market.

Ronald Koeman has asked Barca to strengthen the middle of the pitch over the past few windows, but it has not been done so far.

Van de Beek is a possibility for Barcelona in January. The former Everton manager knows his compatriot ‘well’ from their time with the national team.

For now, Sport only mention the United player is a transfer ‘candidate’ for Barca. There is no mention whether they are looking to sign Van de Beek on loan or permanent transfer.
