Unwanted by Mikel Arteta this season at Arsenal, William Saliba was sent on loan to Marseille for the season, where he has started the campaign really well.
One of the stars of Jorge Sampaoli’s side, the young defender has shown exactly why the Gunners spent a decent amount of money on him to buy him from Saint-Etienne in the past, even if they are yet to use him.
The 20-year-old is also one of the regulars for France’s U21s, whom he captained on Sunday evening in a 5-0 win over Ukraine in the U21 Euros qualifiers.
Following the game, the Arsenal loanee spoke to the press, where he was asked about his time at Marseille so far.
He replied, relayed by L’Equipe: “We’ve done a big start to the season, even if the three last games haven’t been positive with two losses in Ligue 1. We’re going to come back to try and win. I have been welcomed really well by my teammates and the fans.
“For me, it’s a very good choice, it’s the club I needed, with a very good pressure. At my age, it’s good to play in a stadium like that”.
Saliba is referring to the Orange Vélodrome, Marseille’s stadium, well known for its heated atmosphere created by fervent fans.
The Arsenal man has started all but one of the club’s Ligue 1 games this season, featuring on the right of a three man defence in their latest fixture against Lille, which they lost 2-0.
