Serie B side Cagliari are eyeing a move for Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri if they manage to secure promotion to Serie A.
That’s according to Serie B News, who cover how Claudio Ranieri’s side are targeting an ambitious and somewhat delusional move for the Uruguayan.
Cagliari are currently 7th in the Serie B table but level on points with fifth placed Pisa and only six points behind Suditrol in fourth place.
They are hoping a strong end to the season could see them promoted and they have ambitious plans for the transfer window if they are.
Those in charge are currently exploring the market outside of Italy and one of those they have looked at is Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri.
He’s not had many opportunities at Old Trafford this season and that, plus a claimed market value of €3m makes him a potential option.
The Italian side also believe that the fact Serie A has been ‘historically very generous’ for South American forwards is something that cannot be overlooked.
The reality, though, is that Pellistri is very unlikely to be interested in the switch and Manchester United certainly wouldn’t want to sell him for that price.
That value is simply what’s been accredited to him by Transfermarkt but United are unlikely to think a €5.5m loss on a player they only signed two years ago, and who is still only 21, is acceptable.
This, instead, seems to be pure delusion from Cagliari, whose ambition is apparently not steeped in reality.
