Having sold Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer, Bayern Munich brought in Sadio Mané from Liverpool to bolster their attack.
The Senegal international is a very different profile to his Polish counterpart, which has led to some struggles in the league, with the Bundesliga side currently third in the table with just four wins from nine games.
They are only four points off leaders Union Berlin, but the weekend’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund didn’t do much to quell any worries, and there has been a lot of talk about an interest in Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
The England international certainly is far more alike to Lewandowski than Mané, and with him struggling to win many trophies with Spurs, the idea of a move to Bayern Munich, who are used to lifting cups and leagues aplenty, could be enticing.
It’s something the German side have been thinking about, and Bild double down on that on Monday, stating that ‘one name is particularly hotly debated’, as the brass in Bavaria has Tottenham’s Kane ‘on the list for next summer’.
As for the feasibility of it all, Uli Hoeneß told BR, relayed by Bild, that the club are missing a number nine, and suggested that after spending €137.5m in the summer, they lacked the funds for a top striker in the last transfer window.
However, the chief was contradicted by the club’s president, Herbert Hainer, who told Blickpunkt Sport: “It’s not primarily a question of money, it has to be the right player on the market. If the opportunity arises, we will take a closer look at it.”
Therefore, it seems Bayern might have the money to tempt Tottenham if Kane were to push for an exit, but with Spurs doing rather well in the league (currently 3rd), it remains to be seen if the Englishman will be as willing to leave as he once was in the past.
