Rennes haven’t given on signing Yaser Asprilla from Watford, despite being unable to reach an agreement with the player’s agent when he travelled to France last week.
FootMercato journalist Sebastien Denis says Rennes continue to work on personal terms after they managed to reach an agreement with the Championship club.
The Ligue 1 side have agreed to pay €28m as an initial fee, with potential bonuses coming on top of that. Asprilla would receive €1.2m per year after tax, but this hasn’t been enough to convince the player’s agents.
Rennes now hope the agent ‘comes to his senses’ and accepts the offer which has been made.
Last week there were reports FC Porto had moved forward for the Watford player, although as we explained at the time it’s unlikely they’d offer much more in wages.
Leicester City have also been credited with interest and it’s the Foxes who would present a bigger danger to Rennes in the battle to sign Asprilla.
There’s clearly some frustration building at Rennes… perhaps at Watford too.
