Appearing out of the blue, the idea that Granit Xhaka could work under José Mourinho next year at AS Roma is one that continues to grow in Italy.
The Arsenal midfielder appears to be nearing the end of his cycle at the Emirates after five years at the club, and while he remained a key player under Mikel Arteta, the general feeling is it might be best for both parties to move on from each other.
His time in London hasn’t been without its ups and downs, and this would give him an opportunity to start afresh under a manager who has publicly praised him in the past, which is why Roma are trying to get something done for their new figurehead.
Il Tempo have a tidbit on the situation this Wednesday, explaining the Serie A side are currently ‘negotiating with the player’s agents’ all the while ‘hoping to reach agreement with the Gunners for a fee below €20m’.
That corroborates past claims that a fee of €18m with a few bonuses could be enough to convince Arsenal to drop down from their initial €25m request.
It seems like Roma are definitely keen to get this one over the line, and with reports that Xhaka is also open to a move, reportedly ‘tired’ of being at the Emirates, then there shouldn’t be too many issues.
