Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez is an option for Napoli as they seek a replacement for Kostas Manolas in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Il Mattino, who say the Colombian centre-back is on Aurelio De Laurentiis list of players he and Cristiano Giuntoli are looking at.
Manolas completed a move back to his homeland with Olympiakos last week, leaving a hole in Napoli’s defence that will need to be filled.
The problem is that the Italian side are working under the same ‘market conditions’ they had under the summer, in which funds were limited, and they had to work to pull off smart deals.
They managed to do that with a loan deal for Fulham’s Franck Zambo Anguissa, who joined on loan with an option to make it permanent for €15m at the end of the season.
They want a deal that affects ‘only the salary’ and ‘not the cost of the card’. In other words, a loan deal in which they only have to pay wages.
Whether Tottenham would sanction such a move isn’t mentioned, but it seems unlikely given Sanchez has been a regular under Antonio Conte since his arrival.
That, coupled with the Italian manager being unlikely to want to sanction a deal that will see him lose a player, particularly when squads can be decimated by COVID, should make this one a non-starter.
Sanchez is clearly on Napoli’s list, though, the reports this week have made that clear, so it remains to be seen if they do approach Tottenham once the January window opens.
