It wouldn’t be the start of the transfer window in Italy without a story about Matteo Darmian returning to Italy, and Il Mattino duly deliver on Tuesday morning.

The local newspaper look at the moves Napoli could end up doing over the coming month, with the need for a fullback already well documented and the Manchester United man high on their list of desired subjects.

As things stand, the Red Devils aren’t all that interested in seeing the Italy international leave Old Trafford, most likely due to their lack of depth on either side of the defence, but that won’t stop the Serie A side from trying.

Il Mattino say Darmian wants to leave the north of England, something Napoli’s director of football is well aware of, and there’s hope this desire will push him to clash with his current side in order to force a move in January.

With Sime Vrsaljko seemingly staying at Atlético Madrid and Alex Grimaldo too expensive for the Italians midway through the season, it seems their focus is now entirely on the Manchester United defender for the time being.
