Bayern Munich are hoping they can convince Newcastle United to spend their money and take Sadio Mané off their hands this summer.
That’s according to Sport 1’s Die Bayern-Woche podcast, relayed by Fussball Transfers, who say the Germans believe Newcastle are their only possible option if they try to get rid of Mané after a disappointing first season at the club.
They explain that Bayern currently have four players for the wings who could all be guaranteed starters and Thomas Tuchel is happy for that to change.
He and Bayern ‘hope to convince’ Mané to leave the summer and they are ‘counting in particular’ on Newcastle making a move.
That’s because they know the Magpies are ‘economically potent’ and hope to take advantage of that fact.
Mané currently earns €20m a year at Bayern and that figure makes him ‘almost impossible’ for many of the potential suitors on the market. Newcastle, though, can easily afford such a figure thanks to the backing from their Saudi Arabian owners.
Whether Newcastle will help them out, though, remains to be seen. They may have unlimited funds but Eddie Howe and his team know they have to be careful with them when strengthening for the Champions League this summer.
They’re yet to be seriously linked with a move for the Senegal star in Germany, with most, if not all of the reports on their potential interest coming from England.
Thus, at this point, it seems Bayern’s hope they will come in and take Mané away is exactly that and nothing more.
