On Thursday, AC Milan were thrown into the mix to sign Aston Villa loanee Clément Lenglet in January.

The Frenchman has yet to feature in any other competition other than the Conference League this season despite his summer signing on loan from Barcelona, and the situation has caught the attention of a few clubs in search of cheap defensive reinforcements.

That includes Milan, who want a left-footed centre-back in the next transfer window, and the Aston Villa man fits that profile, with Calciomercato covering the situation on Friday.

They explain ‘contacts’ have taken place with Barcelona regarding the defender, and the Catalan club are ‘thinking of interrupting’ the loan because of his lack of game time to ‘find a new solution for him’.

While it’s said ‘there was an openness’ from the La Liga side to do a loan deal with their Italian counterparts, it won’t be overly straightforward, however, mostly because of his high wages.

Earning €6m a year, having him for six months would cost Milan €3m, which isn’t exactly ‘low cost’, meaning the move would only be possible if Barcelona paid some of his wages, which were one of the reasons they wanted rid of him to Aston Villa in the first place.

In short, the idea is there, but whether it can actually go ahead is a whole different kettle of fish.
