Last weekend, The Sunday Times reported that Manchester City have identified Atlético Madrid’s José Giménez as one of their centre-back targets for the summer transfer window.
The English newspaper also explained the defender heads Pep Guardiola’s transfer ‘wish list’, and the Citizens have been told to pay his €120m release clause.
His contract with the La Liga side lasts until 2023.
Tuesday’s edition of AS has relayed the claims made by The Sunday Times and they also provide Los Rojiblancos’ stance on the Uruguay international.
It’s claimed the 25-year-old has gained a lot of attention from the Premier League.
However, the Spanish side have ‘no intention’ of letting the player leave the club, who has been one of the regulars for Diego Simeone.
In addition to this, Giménez has also ‘no intention’ of leaving the Madrid based club this summer. The report, however, adds it’s necessary to see ‘what happens’ if City’s interest in the central defender is real.
The South American has struggled with injuries this season, which is why he’s made only 21 league appearances. Atlético have managed 11 clean sheets out of those fixtures.
