As Tottenham Hotspur close in on signing Serge Aurier from Paris Saint Germain, at least according to the French media, there’s another club said to be pretty interested in the negotiations.
As reported by Tuttosport today, Juventus are keeping an eye on the Tottenham talks as they hope to get a chance to sign the right-back themselves.
The newspaper takes the claims from L’Equipe to say Spurs are struggling to get Aurier a work permit, due to the player’s legal problems. Aurier still doesn’t have a positive appeal outcome after being sentenced to two months for violence against police, without it he can’t sign for Tottenham.
Money isn’t mentioned as a problem for Juventus. The only difficulty they would find to land the right-back is that he’d join as a non EU player, and the squad doesn’t have any free spots for that.
Whilst it’s easy to get a work permit in Italy, so Juventus wouldn’t face Tottenham’s issues, Serie A club are allowed a limited number of non EU players.
Juve would have to buy him now and loan to another Italian side until January, when there would be the chance to add him to the squad. Several Italian clubs have been reported as potential destination in Italy’s sport media this week.
Of course, Juventus could always sell one of their non EU players instead, which may be a more straightforward way of beating Tottenham.
