Newcastle United have seen Alexander Isak become an absolute star in the past couple of seasons.
He’s been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe during this campaign, scoring 17 times and assisting five times in the Premier League.
Numbers like that are sure to attract attention and Barcelona have been linked with a move for the Swedish striker for months, even if there’s huge questions over whether they could afford him.
Sport, a Catalan newspaper, have reported today that Barcelona sporting director Deco is enchanted by the 25-year-old and has ‘made some moves’. Contact was made with the player’s entourage towards the end of 2024.
The contact was informal but Deco is said to have found out that Isak would be keen on wearing the Blaugrana shirt. The real problems will be posed by Newcastle United’s hefty price-tag.
The Magpies want well over €100m to sell their player and there is also keen interest from Arsenal, who are more financially capable of satisfying the player, his entourage and Newcastle United.
Despite that, Isak is at the top of the Spanish giants’ shortlist. The feeling is that only a major sale in the summer will allow them to meet Newcastle United’s asking price.
