Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan is yet to decide where he wants to play next season as his current deal expires on June 30th.
The Citizens want to tie the midfielder to a new deal while Barcelona are keen to sign him for free.
Sport state the La Liga side are waiting for the Manchester City star’s decision on his future after offering him a three-year deal.
The Catalan club believe the 32-year-old wants to continue at the highest level, which is why he won’t move to Saudi Arabia. They have given him guarantees that he can be registered, amid ongoing concerns over their economic situation.
From the sporting point of view, the player has received assurances after holding talks with Xavi Hernández. The report also states Barcelona are aware Pep Guardiola and his side are ‘pressing’ for his renewal.
It’s said Manchester City have made a ‘higher economic offer’ to the German, but for two seasons, which is one less than what Barcelona have offered.
Sport say Gündoğan feels his cycle at the Etihad is ‘finished’ and his family’s desire to live in a city that has better weather could favour Barca.
At the Camp Nou, they ‘harbour hope’ that the player will end up picking the Blaugrana over renewing his contract at Manchester City.
The ball is now in Gündoğan’s court.
