We usually see situations when the player wants to go but the club want him to stay. Well, the opposite is happening at Valencia right now.
During the past few months, we’ve seen the name of João Cancelo being linked to clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City.
Both Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola could arguably do with a right back, Manchester United especially if Matteo Darmian returns to Italy, so the links have made at least some sense.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported on Tuesday that Cancelo could be sold so Valencia would be fine with financial fair play. His performances have been reasonable, he’s seen as having good potential, so the Spanish side could get some decent money for him.
But now, according to Super Deporte, the player has asked to stay. The outlet claims Cancelo told the board he doesn’t want to be for sale and the club should turn down the offers for him.
Manchester United and Manchester City are named as interested clubs, but the player is shying away from a January switch.
Valencia’s response to this is still to be seen. The club are not in a good form in La Liga and a few January signings could certainly help the situation. The player reportedly has a €30m release clause, and Valencia would not sell him for less than that.
What could make him change his mind?
