On Wednesday, rumours appeared in the British media that Liverpool are interested in Nice right-back Ricardo Pereira. As said by the Daily Star, Jurgen Klopp would have sent scouts to watch the Porto loanee in France.
The claims really caught the Portuguese newspapers by surprise. None of them had any idea of this interest, and that’s why they all have short articles about it today.
O Jogo claims that Porto would be pretty happy with the idea of making some money by selling the player to Liverpool. Not used in Portugal, they describe the Pereira’s loan to France as an ‘excellent decision’ both for the 23-year-old and the club.
Also covering the claims of Liverpool interest, another Portuguese newspaper, Record, reveals that the player has a €25m release clause in a contract which runs until 2018.
With A Bola reporting the same thing, we can see that that’s all the Portuguese sports press knows.
Despite the player belonging to a Portuguese club and having a Portuguese agent, no information of a Liverpool interest has arrived to the local media so far.
They’ll certainly be digging for it now.
Porto would be pleased with Liverpool interest, and that of any other big club, because it would increase their chances of getting as close to the player’s clause as possible.
