FC Twente have stepped up their effort for Rangers striker Sam Lammers, with a deal worth around €3m including bonuses now in the pipeline.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who cover the situation around the striker today as he looks set to leave Ibrox.
Lammers has been expected to leave Rangers this summer after it was made clear he was not a part of Philippe Clement’s plans at Ibrox moving forwards.
Several Dutch sides have expressed an interest after his successful loan spell at FC Utrecht in the second half of last season and a report earlier today stated that Twente were now pushing forward after abandoning their plans to try and sign Wout Weghorst.
Those reports failed to mention a potential asking price from Rangers, but De Telegraaf now state they’ve ‘gotten the hang of it’.
According to their information, a transfer fee that could increase to €3m once bonuses have been activated is now being discussed and likely to be finalised.
That will allow Rangers to recoup most of the €4m they paid for Lammers last year, eventually, while they can also get his €1.5m wages, which have been described as a burden on the budget at Ibrox, off the books.
They add that FC Utrecht and NEC Nijmegen appear to be out of the race as they couldn’t meet Lammers’ salary demands when talks were opened. The Rangers striker had been willing to compromise but not enough to make a deal happen.
That’s left the path clear for Twente, who seem willing and capable to play what Lammers wants and so are now pushing to get him from Rangers.
