Inter Milan want a Chelsea left-back, and that has been reported in the Italian media for some time.
According to Monday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonio Conte would prefer Marcos Alonso over Emerson Palmieri, but it seems apparent that Inter would be prepared to take whichever is available first.
So far Chelsea have refused to enter into negotiations for either, with Inter wanting a loan with a purchase option. Despite that, the Serie A club have ‘good reasons’ to believe they can sign one of the pair.
Gazzetta believe it’s just a matter of time, and for Chelsea to get Ben Chilwell to full fitness. Signing the left-back from Leicester City during the current market, it’s very likely he’ll be first choice for Frank Lampard.
Until Chilwell is fully fit, Lampard doesn’t want to ‘deprive’ himself of either Alonso or Emerson.
That’s unlikely to be the only problem, regardless of what Gazzetta believe.
Chelsea are going to want a permanent deal, or at least a loan with a mandatory purchase clause, rather than an optional one.
