Flamengo have given up on the purchase of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira, according to reports from Brazil.

Journalist Venê Casagrande, quite reliable when it comes to the Rio de Janeiro side, writes on IG that the club board is currently decided not to make the permanent signing following his loan spell.

The clubs had recently found an agreement with Manchester United to make the move for €10.5m, and had even exchanged documents to make it official, with the Brazilian club getting artwork ready for social media posts.

Flamengo, however, first delayed the operation due to a sanction from the Central Bank.

While they sorted the issue, Pereira entered a very disappointing form which convinced board and fans that he was not worth that investment.

It’s pointed out that the Manchester United midfielder’s staff have not been told about the decision yet, and they still claim that the player was told by president Rodolfo Landim that the purchase would be made.

Flamengo, on the other hand, know they have until June until their final decision.

The club are just worried about their credibility in the European market in case they actually decide against it.
