Towards the end of last season, we covered claims from France which stated West Ham United’s Nayef Aguerd was considering changing clubs this summer.

Last weekend, L’Equipe reported Lille and Atlético Madrid are in the picture to sign the 28-year-old.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update on the La Liga side’s interest in the West Ham player.

Los Rojiblancos have already signed Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad, and are still looking to strengthen their centre-back strength in this window.

The Morocco international has been on the Madrid club’s list, but they are finding it too difficult to take him away from West Ham.

Aouna makes no mention of why it’s difficult for Atlético to sign Aguerd, but says they have shifted their focus to Barcelona’s Clément Lenglet. Diego Simeone’s side have made contact with the 29-year-old Frenchman’s camp.

Aguerd’s deal lasts until 2027, and he made 28 appearances in all competitions last season, of which only seven were from this year.
