Last year, a couple of English clubs were linked to Fluminense wonderkid Marcos Paulo.

One of them was Watford, with reports from Brazil saying the Hornets tried to sign the player even before they secured João Pedro from the Rio de Janeiro side.

The other one was Newcastle United, who at the end of the year were reportedly in a fight for Marcos Paulo against CSKA Moscow and Barcelona.

Well, Fluminense were doing their best to keep the player at the time, as they were working on giving him a new contract.

His current deal expires in July, and according to Globo Esporte, the club have given up on the renewal and are now in a rush to sell him before he leaves for free.

Marcos Paulo could sign a pre-contract with any club he wants, but Fluminense are hopeful that someone will pay a fee to take him in the January transfer window.

It isn’t clear if Newcastle or Watford are returning for him, as Globo Esporte only mentions the past offers from the Hornets, Roma and Torino.

Now that the 19-year-old became an easy target, we should soon get news on his future.
