The more imaginative sections of the Spanish rumour mill love a Dani Ceballos to Liverpool story.

Ceballos was strongly linked to Liverpool back in 2015 when he was at Real Betis and coming towards a free transfer. The Merseyside club were said to have offered the youngster a house, car, and €1.5m a year in wages.

Moving to Real Madrid instead, Ceballos hasn’t been used as much as he’d like and that’s encouraging further transfer rumours.

In February, El Chiringuito reported Ceballos had been eager to join Liverpool during the January transfer window, but Real Madrid blocked it.

In March, it was then claimed by Diario Gol that the player had told Madrid president Florentino Perez: “I’m going to the Premier League.”

A move to Liverpool was said to be ‘very advanced’.

Now Don Balon say there’s an ‘offer’ from Liverpool and Perez has given the move his ‘green light’.

Jurgen Klopp has been pushing for an ‘irresistible offer’, and Ceballos would be Emre Can’s replacement.

El Chringuito, Diario Gol and Don Balon are something of a transfer axis of evil, but if the 2015 interest was correct then there’s every chance Liverpool have kept an eye on the player.
