Cagliari have been told by an Italian court they must pay compensation to Davide Ballardini following his sacking by the Sardinian club in 2012. Ballardini was fired by Massimo Cellino, now owner of Leeds United, after just a few months at Cagliari.
La Nuova Sardegna have reported the judge involved in this case has ordered compensation should be paid to Ballardini because his dismissal by Cellino has been ruled to be illegal by the courts. It’s not be revealed how much compensation will be paid to Ballardini, but this will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
However, despite Cellino being the owner of Cagliari at the time the Leeds United chief will not be picking up the bill. It’s been revealed the new owners at the Italian club will have to pay compensation to Ballardini because Cellino sold the club to them in 2014 before purchasing Leeds United.
Cellino had something of a controversial reign at Cagliari, which ultimately resulted in the Italian moving to Miami because of threats he received. The Leeds United chief has also faced problems since his arrival in England, and has already been hit with two bans from the FA.
Since moving to Leeds United, Cellino has also been involved in another high profile employment legal case. Lucy Ward successfully took Leeds United to an employment tribunal after she was sacked in 2015 for gross misconduct.
